Kindergarten Readiness and Play Groups

Overview 

Children will gain experience following a kindergarten routine through purposeful play and group circle time experiences.  This educational program will promote engagement in various hands-on experiences to support fine motor and sensory development.  Activities will focus on readiness for school, including play exploration, sustaining attention, following directions, turn-taking, and group work.

 

Objectives 

  • Improve peer group socialization skills
  • Improve fine-motor and sensory-motor development
  • Improve school skills needed for kindergarten success, including play exploration, sustained attention, following directions, turn-taking, and group work

 

Protocol

  • Intro (group circle time/warm-up/ice breaker activity) – 10 min.
  • Purposeful play activity (fine motor, gross motor, sensory motor) – 15 min.
  • Turn-taking game/activity (following directions, sustained attention) – 15 min.
  • Play exploration/Centers (racetracks, sensory table, building blocks) – 5 min.
  • Closing (clean-up materials) – 5 min.
