FUNctional Fitness Groups

Overview 

Children of all abilities will engage in activities geared toward purposeful movement.  The program will work on skills such as muscular strength/coordination, endurance, flexibility, balance, speed, and cardiovascular health while having fun.  The program will offer intense sensory experiences and neuro-developmental movements to emphasize coordination and body awareness skills.

 

Objectives 

  • Improve functional strength and coordination
  • Improve body awareness/sensory processing skills
  • Facilitate neuro-developmental movements
  • Improve sports-specific skills including balance, coordination, speed, endurance, timing, and sequencing

 

Protocol

  • Intro (warm-up movement activity/ice breaker) – 5 min.
  • Strength and endurance activity – 10 min.
  • Sensory motor activity/obstacle course – 10 min.
  • Functional skill development (game/sports skills) – 15 min.
  • Cool down (yoga, breathing exercises) – 5 min.
  • Closing (clean-up materials) – 5 min.
